Skins

I have just watched the first episode of series 4 of the British TV teenage drama skins and I am now going to talk about some of the representation of Cook that is featured.
One of the characters we come across is a 17 year old male, stereotypically pursued as a "Chav". His name is Cook and comes across as a very loud mouthed, arrogant person. The clothes he dresses in play a part in representing his character. For instance he is dressed in a Burberry jacket which usually connotes thoughts of being a Chav. He also has a diamond stud in his ear which also indicates parts of his Chavvy character.
The way he speaks and his attitude towards other people also play a part in representing his character. He is often seen to be bouncing along the screen, suggesting that he has a very bubbly and fun character. The first we see of him is when he hugs Tom, but shortly after, Tom throws Cook off and tells him to go away. This suggests that some other characters find him annoying and don't like his "in your face attitude". The first dialogue we here from him consists of " Tomo, How the f*ck didley are you!". Straight away we get the impression that his character is very full on and doesn't really have high morals. It also suggests that he doesn't really care about what people think of him or about getting in trouble, which later on unravels to become more blatant.

Equipment And Prop List

The equipment we have decided to use are as follows:
Sony HDR-HC9E video camera: This is the video camera we will use to shoot our thriller opener
Tripod: This is what we will use to hold the camera on to maintain a smooth and steady image.
Gorilla Tripod: We could use this to record interesting shots such as from a branch of a tree which the gorilla tripod will enable us to do.

The props we have decided to use are as follows:
Car - Renualt Clio. This is the car we are going to use where the majority of our filming is going to take place near.
Weapon - A thick and heavy branch off a tree or spade. This is what we could use for the murderer to kill the victim in.
Mobile phone - We will use a mobile phone when Hope walks off after their argument and tries to look for help.
Educational text books - This what we used to indicate that the characters are still in education and tells the audience a bit about the characters.

Costumes

Costumes
These are some prototype costumes for our acting in that the female in our film will preform in. The red jumper will show the romance and hinting at the danger yet to come in the thriller. The use of the other black clothing will make the red jumper standout, again creating an ora of danger.
The good thing about these items is that you can get them fairly cheap and to get a hold of. These are also quiet fashionable to wear which is the theme that we are trying to get across. The red jumper will be under the coat only showing the hood.

To make out that the female is the main character, the male actor will be dressed in black. This will make him not standout, representing the female character as the main part this will only be used for the opening. This idea I have taken from the film Lucky Number Slevin, that I used for one of my case studies, at the end of the film all the people and characters are in black except Slevins girlfriend, who is dressed in red bring the attention to her.

Filming difficulites

We experience a few problems when it came to shooting our thriller opening. Unfortunately, due to the unexpected snow across the UK, we could not shoot on the day scheduled so we decided to postpone it. We decided to do this because firstly, if we were to film over a number of days, and it had snow during the shooting of one day, but the next scene did not have snow then it would not be consistent and would lack continuity, which would look very unprofessional and confuse the audience.
Another problem we came across was finding a car that we could use as a prop as none of us had easy access to one, but my parents allowed us use their car.
On our first day of recording, our male actor, will was not able to record due to a doctor appointment, however we managed to face this problem by Richard stepping in to act.
Overall I think the recording was a success under the circumstances that faced us and I am pleased with the footage we captured.
